A Mind of Her Own

This feisty little girl has been throwing her weight around this week (all 8 ounces of it), and has made sure we all know that she is the boss around here. We were scheduled for a doctor's appointment on Thursday afternoon. We had it all planned out that we wouldn't find out her gender, but the doctor would. Then we could all find out together on Saturday. Of course she decided not to comply, and she sat on her feet the entire time. I was a little disappointed, but was ok with rescheduling our gender party. Then I realized the doctor didn't print out her sweet little picture we always get. The hormones got the best of me, and I was so sad. We started calling around to see if there was a 3D sonogram place with an available appointment for that evening. We found one and headed straight there. This time her gender was immediately evident. We went with the original plan to put the results in an envelope, and baby b's gender reveal was back on schedule. They then tried for what seemed like a very long time to get a clear picture of her face without much luck. She was happily snugged in, facing my spine, and hands on her face. Once again not willing to show what they were looking for in the sonogram.

Putting her hand up to block her sweet face.
We spent the rest of Thursday evening running errands, dropping off the secret envelope, etc. When I woke up on Friday I didn't quite feel like myself, but I just figured I was tired from the crazy previous day. I had another busy day of work, basketball games, and birthday parties scheduled. I rested in between and made it to all of the events.
I woke up Saturday morning and planned to start working on the party decor for that evening. We were planning to do lip cut outs for people to hold if they thought it was a girl and mustaches for those who thought it was a boy. I was also going to do coordinating cupcake toppers. When I woke up that morning I was having some scary symptoms, so I called in to the doctor. He assured me that everything was probably fine, but he told me to take it easy-keep my feet up, drink lots of fluids, and to call for an appointment on Monday morning. I realized then that this girl did NOT want a big party announcing whether she was a boy or a girl to the world.

The super cute invitation baby daddy designed for the party.
I went back and forth about what I wanted to do. I realized that I still wanted to go with our original cupcake idea. The cupcake baker (my friend Carla) had already begun to make the cupcakes, so we called and asked if she could still make about a dozen even if the party was called off. We wound up having the grandparents, my sister, and her two girls over for the event. Nick's parents brought dinner, my mom and sister laid in bed with me, did laundry, and straightened my house. I can handle that kind of company :)

The cupcakes! Once they were delivered, I tried this line on everyone that came over, "we could bite into one and no one would have to know about it,". I had no takers!

We bit into the cupcakes, and they were PINK!!! Due to all of the other circumstances this weekend we have gotten to see our little sweet-pea on a couple of other sonos in the last few days. One of which was to try to take all kinds of measurements, which she needed to be pretty still during to get accurate measurements. Wouldn't you know that this time she was a crazy mover, trying out some dance moves. We did confirm that she is most definitely a girl. A very healthy, active girl with a strong heartbeat and her own ideas about how to behave during a sonogram. All is well with us after a long weekend. I am taking it easy for a couple of days, and then it will be back to life as normal. We are so thankful the blessing that is our sweet girl. We are also thankful for sweet friends and family who have been praying for us, offering food and company, and who have been picking up the slack for me while I'm out of work for a few days.

Baby B is a SHE!! The daddy was right, and my heart has already melted watching him look at the tiny pink clothes we received as gifts on Saturday.
