Baby B... He or She?

The first questions everyone asks these days are: Do you know if the baby is a boy or girl? and Are you going to find out? The answers are: not yet and yes! We have a doctor's appointment on Feb 2nd, and our doctor sonograms each visit (one of many reasons we love him). We are hoping this will be the day. Actually, we are going to wait and find out at a gender reveal on Saturday, February 4th.

Last night at dinner I started mentioning the old wives' tales about gender prediction. Nick didn't know anything about these. He immediately began googling like a mad man, and he came up with some new ones I had never heard of before. Here's our list so far and the answers to the ones we know. I'll try to explain each briefly!

Math formula - my age, conception month, my birth month - even girl/odd boy - girl
Gypsy formula - my age, conception month- even boy, odd girl - boy
Oil test - if oil placed on belly runs quickly boy, slowly girl - girl
Ring test hand - Ring on gold chain over your hand - swings straight lines boy, circles girl -
Ring test belly - Ring on string over your belly - swings straight lines boy, circles girl - my ring - girl Nick's ring - boy
Mayans -a gender predictor chart - boy
Sickness - I have had some morning sickness - girl
Heartbeat - over 140 girl- 146 last appt - girl
Cravings - I have wanted salty or sour foods -boy
Cravings - I haven't cared much about cheese or meat - girl
Cravings - I have wanted fruit or oj - girl
Cold feet - mine haven't been - girl
Chinese gender calendar - girl

So... According to all of this so far the survey says -

9 - girl
4 - boy

The daddy thinks girl, and most of the parents from his basketball team seem to agree. As for me, I'm staying neutral like Switzerland. I just don't want to be wrong! Cast your votes in the poll on the side bar. Also, check out Baby Poll if you want to begin making predictions about the big birthday!

Sometimes One and One is Three

It's official! We are having a baby due July 4th 2012! We are so very excited and ready to begin this new chapter of our lives together. In order to spread the news we had our family pictures taken with this sign-"Sometimes One and One is Three". This is a line in a favorite song of ours and so fitting :) we had mentioned that it would be a perfect way to announce a baby when we first heard it. I was so excited to finally have a reason to put the plan into action. We tried to tell as many important people in our lives as possible face-to-face. I loved seeing the reactions on their faces. I think that once you are married for 8 years no one really thinks it will ever happen-including us at times.

I found out about this sweetie on October 27. I took a test (or three) before work. I waited a full 12 hours to tell Nick, because I really wanted to tell him in person (in case you haven't noticed a theme-I am all about face-to-face announcements). It was such a long day. I looked at the picture on my phone of the positive test many times that day. I just couldn't believe it. I ordered a print online of the test (with "Proof that sometimes one and one is three. Baby B coming July 2012."). When picking it up that afternoon i also got a digital pregnancy test. It became really really real when the word pregnant popped up on the test. I could not wait to show Nick.

It was game six of the World Series that night, so I told N I had gotten him a little present for the game. When he opened it his classic Nick reaction was, "I'm gonna need more information" love him! I was SO excited and after twelve hours of secret I couldn't wait to talk it out. He needed a little while to catch up to my excitement, but it didn't take him long.

We feel blessed beyond measure, and thankful that our prayers to add a little one to our family were answered so quickly after we felt led in that direction. In the days just before that positive test each time I would begin to think about whether it could be possible that we were pregnant the song, "'Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus", would cross my mind. I would immediately feel a sense of peace that the Lord's timing was what is best for my life, and it was not the time to worry. I have to remind myself of this over and over because pregnancy brings a new crop of worries along with it. I know that God has plans for our little one, and I can't wait to experience the journey with Nick and Baby B.
